Visiting in Imatra

Vietimme viime lauantain Imaralla ja näimme upeat Imatrankosken maisemat. 

Pääsimme nauttimaan myös Imatrankosken padon avaamisesta. Olen nähnyt sen kerran aiemmin lähes 15 vuotta sitten ja olin melkein unohtanut kuinka huikea se on. Pato on tällä hetkellä remontissa ja siitä johtuen vain yksi padon portti avattiin. Veden voima oli silti uskomattoman suuri ja padon avaaminen todella mahtavaa katsottavaa. Se teki minuun jälleen suuren vaikutuksen. 

Teimme myös kävelyretken Imatran Valtionhotellin upeissa maisemissa. Hotelli avattiin vuonna 1903 ja sillä on takanaan mielenkiintoinen historia. Hotelli on toiminut vuosien saatossa mm. sotasairaalana ja armeijan esikuntana ja siellä on yöpynyt hyvin arvovaltaisia vieraita Suomesta ja ulkomailta. 

Huhujen mukaan hotellissa asuu myös kummitus ns. harmaa / vihreäasuinen rouva. Täytyy joskus katsoa onko huhuissa perää ja yöpyä Imatran Valtionhotellin upeassa Jugend-linnassa.

The view from our hotel room balcony on Saturday evening

We spent last Saturday in Imatra and had spectacular views over Imatra rapids. 

We saw also the opening of Imatra rapids dyke. I have saw it once before over decade ago and I didn't even remember how huge it was. They are renovating the dyke and that's why only one gate were opened. The power of the water was still huge. It made me a big impact again. 

We went also walking around the area of Imatra Valtionhotelli. The hotel was opened in 1903 and it has an interesting history. The Hotel has been also the place of military staff and a war hospital during wars. The hotel has had many dignitary guests from Finland and abroad. 

There are rumors that there is a ghost in the hotel. There are stories about grey / green dressed woman ghost. I have to seek someday if the stories are real and to book a hotel night from the Imatra Valtionhotelli.
